LESSON PROGRAM

Our riding instructors are Heather Heberle and Rachel Sells (both are certified through American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA).  

Heather Heberle is the Senior Instructor who is ARIA Certified Level III Hunt Seat and Recreational Riding (Level III is the highest obtainable level).  We teach beginners through advanced students in Hunt Seat Riding. The lesson program also teaches grooming, tacking, bathing, untacking, leading, grazing and all aspects of preparing a horse for riding and cool down. We teach children and adults. Heberle Stables also has Horse Shows and attends many shows away from home for beginners through the students having their own horse.  

LESSON TIME

The lessons are scheduled for an hour but the mounted lesson is approximately 40 minutes. The lesson time includes tacking, mounting, adjusting stirrups, warm up, cool down, untacking and cleaning up the tack and putting things away. Please be prepared to stay longer after your lesson to make certain the horse is properly groomed and the bridle has been cleaned and items put away properly. Arriving a half hour before your lesson can also help the student to be prepared on time. Check the lesson book for the horse you will be riding and if you are capable of tacking you may do so, or have one of the helpers assist you.

PARENTS

We encourage parents to watch the lesson. While the student is riding please keep refrain from talking to them as the student need to concentrate on the instructor. On occasion we post notices and hand out newsletters, it is helpful if the parent comes into the barn to make certain they are receiving all the information. Please ask any questions you may have to the instructor. We are busy with the lessons but since the lessons are 40 minutes, this allows us to talk with the parents and come into the barn to assist in the care of the horse and student.

PAYMENT

Lessons are structured for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Our students continue to move to higher levels and advanced horses. On ‘the flat’ or ‘over fences’, we help students achieve their goals for pleasure or competitive riding; on our lesson horses, or your own. We participate in lesson Horse Shows and other rated and non-rated horse shows.

Group lessons are $112 per month, $28 per class. Payment is due in the beginning of each month for the full month. If you call and cancel a class it can be rescheduled within the month, otherwise the lesson is lost.

New Students

New Students will need to take at least one  private lesson and then be placed into a group class. Privates are typically on a Friday.  When placed into a group class payment is $112 for 4 lessons, payable in the beginning of each month.  Riding is a learned skill, after a few lessons you will establish a good base for riding and to see if you enjoy it. ATTIRE

Students need to wear a light boot that covers the ankle with no more than a half inch heel and jeans. A baseball cap for small children helps in fitting a riding helmet. Safety equipment and ASTM/SEI certified helmets are provided. During the winter months layers of clothing works best to keep warm. As the lesson progresses the student will become warm, bulky clothing is difficult to ride in. Leather gloves helps to hold the reins in all weather. If is best to wear nicely fitted clothes so the instructor can see the position of the rider and for safety. Please dress suitable to riding. Once you've decided to continue riding we suggest purchasing your own helmet and other supplies. We have links to local tack stores (see the links bar on the left side of the page).

MAKE UPS/ CANCELLATION

Make up lessons are usually on a Saturday.  If your riding level is approved for hacking a horse unsupervised you may be able to ride on a Friday or Sunday.  Riding needs to be done at least once a week to keep in your skills, this is the reason for not carrying over the missed lessons.  Special circumstances may arise.

SUBSTITUTE INSTRUCTORS

Unforeseen circumstances arise that the instructor cannot teach the lesson. The lesson will be taught by a substitute or by one of the other certified instructors. Notification of this is not always possible and you may cancel your class if you prefer. A trail ride will be scheduled for some of the lessons, it is still a learning experience. Handling a horse outside the ring and uneven terrain is another learning experience for all riders.

HOLIDAYS

The barn is closed on certain Holidays.   Most dates the program is closed is listed on the calendar.   Also check with your instuctor and in the lesson book.

Lessons are run Monday – Friday starting at 3:30 – 7:30 and Saturdays from 8 am – 2 pm.
